Operation Medicine Cabinet 2022

On Saturday, October 29th, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Costco, Mothers for Mother Earth, Inc., Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health, Florida State University’s Institute of Science and Public Affairs (ISPA), and iHeartMedia (WTNT 94.9, WFLA 100.7), held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).

During the event, 72 Tallahassee/Leon County participants brought in 218 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.    These collection events provide Tallahassee/Leon County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
